What are lingual braces?

Lingual braces, also known as hidden braces or incognito braces, are a type of fixed brace. They are discreet because they are attached to the back of your teeth making them extremely discreet and difficult to spot.

Fixed metal braces remain the most precise way to straighten teeth. Hidden braces straighten precisely but they do so discreetly. Patients from Brixton, Battersea, Stockwell, Wandsworth, Clapham and throughout London are choosing lingual braces because they straighten teeth without other people knowing.

How do hidden braces work?

At your initial consultation in Battersea, we will examine your teeth and discuss the process for lingual braces.

Once you decide to go ahead with treatment, we will invite you back to the dental surgery in Battersea where we will take moulds of your teeth which allow us to make your bespoke hidden braces.

When ready, we will start by gently fixing the metal brackets to the back of your teeth.

Next, a strong wire is threaded through the brackets, and this forms the pressure to gently move your teeth into their correct position.

We book to see you on a regular basis so that we can check that your teeth are moving correctly and to tighten your wires to maintain the pressure on your teeth.

Best Treatment Plans & Aftercare

I recently visited the practise for my composite bonding treatment. I was very nervous for the result but Dr Tej and the staff made me feel very comfortable. Dr Tej took so much care in perfecting my smile, as if my teeth were an art piece! I am so happy with the result, I used to be afraid to show my teeth whilst smiling and now I get so many compliments for having a beautiful smile! And to add to this, Dr Tej ensured that not only did my smile look amazing, but offered me genuine advice on the best treatment plans and aftercare, as well as making sure I didn’t experience any pain or discomfort!

What are the benefits of hidden braces?

Patients from Clapham, Wandsworth, Stockwell, Brixton, Battersea, and throughout London are choosing incognito braces because:
Hidden braces are a type of fixed brace which remains the most precise way to straighten teeth. They are a good option if you have a severe orthodontic problem
Lingual braces are attached to the back of your teeth meaning they are very discreet
Any marks or discolouration to teeth caused by wearing braces will be on the back of your teeth rather than on the front

FAQ

Can I straighten just the front teeth with lingual braces?
Yes, lingual braces can be used to straighten a small number of teeth such as those at the front. This usually means that treatment will be quicker and more affordable. We recommend talking about this more with your dentist.
Will hidden braces give me a lisp?
You may experience a lisp when wearing any form of dental brace in your mouth to begin with. This should disappear within a few days
Are there any foods that I should avoid whilst wearing lingual braces?
Just like other fixed braces, you should avoid eating anything hard or sticky or chewy. Food such as chewing gum, hard crusty rolls and toffee should be avoided as they can stick to your braces or damage them.
