Your Invisalign Journey With Us

What to expect during your Invisalign treatment at Battersea

Book a consultation

At your first consultation in Battersea, we will talk through what you’d like to change about your teeth. We’ll assess your mouth, teeth and gums and take pictures using a camera and a special 3D scanner.

These 3D images will show you how your teeth will move during Invisalign treatment and how they will look after you’ve finished wearing your aligners. This means you get to see how your teeth will look before even starting treatment!

When you decide to go ahead with Invisalign, the 3D images will make up your bespoke treatment plan. These are used to create a series of clear, plastic aligners which only fit your teeth.

Once these are ready, we invite you back to the dental practice in Battersea to show you how to wear and remove your Invisalign aligners.

You will be given several sets of Invisalign aligners to take home. You wear your aligners for a minimum of 20 hours a day and then move on to the next set of aligners in the series. Continue in this way until you reach the last set of aligners, and your teeth have reached their final position.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend only drinking cold water with your aligners in and taking them out for anything else that you consume. You need to remove your Invisalign aligners before eating because you could chew straight through the plastic. If you drink anything other than cold water with your aligners, you will risk staining them which will make them look unattractive. It may seem like a pain to begin with, but you will soon get into a routine of removing your aligners quickly and discreetly before eating and drinking.

It’s important that you move on to the new set of aligners as instructed by your dentist because each set will fit your teeth for the exact moment in your treatment plan. As your teeth gradually move, so to do your Invisalign aligners need to match your new straighter teeth!

Don’t panic, call us at the dental surgery in Battersea and we will decide whether it is best for you to move on to the next set of aligners in your series or revert to the previous set. For this reason, we suggest that you don’t throw away your Invisalign aligners after you’ve finished wearing them.

Usually the first few days when you first start wearing Invisalign you can get a mild discomfort – almost like a bruising feeling. Once your teeth get used to the movement (just like if your muscles are getting used to going to the gym) then the discomfort ceases.

You can get mild ulceration of your mouth when you are new to the trays.

Usually No. Some people suffer from a lisp for an hour or so when the Invisalign trays are placed in. They very quickly lose this, sometimes its lasts for a day or two. It would be very rare for this lisp to stay during the entire treatment!

This really depends on how severe your misalignment is. Braces can be on for anything from just a few months to a few years.

Yes they can, however your child needs to be motivated to wear their Invisalign trays. Fixed orthodontics (wires) are more common for children, as they are more likely to lose their trays and not wear them for long enough.
